FORMULA: Fiery Sombre

Scarlet Strange  (@venomus_maximus) from Tease, Knoxville, Tennessee, posted this wow fiery sombre and we asked for the formula. Here she shares the details on her client who she says "has a CRAZY amount of hair! She loooooves red tones. Her natural level is 6, and we've toyed with all kinds of all over reds. We've been fiery to natural to copper and back again. We had been coloring her all over with Alfaparf Milano 5.66/10 volume and she decided she wanted to go a little l lighter. Knowing since we had re-deposited the intense red pigment several times this could prove to be difficult. I suggested a balayage which we could tone to a delicious copper, since we both love the deep red base with the copper pieces. She was thrilled with the idea."

HOW TO:

Before (not pictured): "When she came in for her appointment, she had about two inches of level 6 new growth, with the rest colored with Alfaparf 5.66/10 volume, slightly faded on her porous ends."

STEP 1: Retouch new growth with Alfaparf 5.66/10 volume in hair that had been sectioned off into 5 panels. (Sides, top on the part, and the back divided into two).

STEP 2: Take small diagonal slices and balayage with Alfaparf Super Meches and 30 volume. "I always mix my lightener a little thicker with a balayage. The consistency is so important to prevent spots or bleeding. I also always take diagonal slices, it blends so beautifully compared to straight slices in my experience!"

STEP 3: Process at room temperature for 35 minutes. "I'm not a big fan of using excessive heat so I very rarely use a dryer to process color. "Once rinsed, the base was a beautiful 5.66 that melted into a seamless balayage that was a level 8 caramel/gold.

STEP 4: Since the goal was a vibrant copper,  tone with Alfaparf Colorwear in 8.44 and 7 volume at a 1:2 ratio. Process for 20 minutes.

"The results were beautiful! I never use filters or editing with my hair pictures so what you see is the actual color in natural lighting. We were so happy with the results!"
