FORMULA: Zig Zagged Red

Sierra Barbour (@Sihairuhh), caught our eye with this beautiful post on instagram. We tracked down Barbour, an artist at Supercuts, San Marcos, CA., to get more details:

"Heather came to me wanting something completely different," says Barbour. "So we went for something fun and funky for the cut and a red color with a lot of dimension. For the cut I did an undercut with longer veils on top and used deep parallel point cutting visually for texture."

Here she offers the steps for the color on Heather, a natural level 6 (regrowth) with ends at level 4NB:

Formulas, using Paul Mitchell The Color and Synchro Lift:

Formula 1: 5vr+ 20 volume developer.
Formula 2: 1/2 6r+1/2 8r+ 5 red color shots + 30 volume developer.
Formula 3: 6rr+20 volume developer.

Step 1: Begin by taking a horseshoe parting from recession to recession. Sub-section with zigzag partings.
Step 2: Alternate lifting the ends of every other section with 20 vol for about 15 minutes, processing just enough to lift to a level 8 (for extra dimension).
Step 3: RInse and re-section into the same pattern.
Step 4: Apply formula 1 to every third zig zag section below the horseshoe.
Step 5: Apply formula 2 to every second section.
Step 6: Apply formula 3 to every third section.
Step 7: Process for 35 minutes. Shampoo and condition.
