Does your workout include walking, running or biking? Do you also value charitable contribution or have a favorite charity? If you answered “yes” to both questions, you will love the concept behind Charity Miles.

After signing up, choose a charity represented through Charity Miles. Through an app for your iPhone or Android, log on at the beginning and end of your walk, run or bike ride, and the charity you designate will receive 10 cents for every mile you bike or 25 cents for every mile you walk or run. The sponsors that have funded Charity Miles to make the donations possible have only one requirement of the athletes—you must share each session on social media for the money to reach the charity. Participating charities have included Stand Up to Cancer, Autism Speaks, Wounded Warrior Project, Michael J. Fox Foundation, Habitat for Humanity and Feeding America.

With about 7,000 people signed up as Charity Miles athletes, the nearly two-year-old project is already going strong. The first year, participants logged enough miles to go from the earth to the moon and back three times, and Mashable named the app among its five favorite fitness apps.

The Charity Miles video says it all: “Changing the world is a team sport.”
