It has become one of our favorite holiday traditions to close this special gift issue with a reminder to please take care of you during the pending busy season.
As a salon professional, you give so much to your clients, colleagues and family year-round. At the holidays, you are on overdrive. An already physically and mentally demanding career can push you beyond healthy boundaries, if you are not mindful and proactive. Here are a few tips and reminders to sustain you while you share you gifts of beauty and service!
Always good advice: Drink water and other healthy beverages. Consider green tea instead of or in rotation with your daily coffee, if caffeine is a must.
Fuel up. Stash some extra protein bars at your station, in your purse and in your car. This will help you stave off the extra sweets in the back room and client gifts or help you avoid the temptation of the unhealthy drive-through stop on the way home from work.
Stay limber. Take time to stretch and to be purposeful with your posture at your station.
Take time to breathe right. In-hale deeply, exhale slowly. Think good thoughts. Sounds simple, but is beneficial and necessary! Find ways to make the most of a five-minute break, whether that means a short walk, a quiet corner or plugging in your earphones with a calming song (to block out the holiday soundtrack on repeat play everywhere else).
Protect and nurture your hands, feet and legs. Invest in and apply proper moisturizer. Wear sensible, supportive shoes. (Save the high heels for the holiday parties!)
