If you read MODERN SALON often, you've probably noticed we love to spotlight talented artists whose lives have changed because of the exposure given to their work through social media. Each year in August, we announce our top 100 gamechangers, and in 2019, Sadie Gray made the list with her wide variety of stunning color work.

Thanks to social media, Gray went from working just part time to being booked six days a week for a minimum of 10 hours each day in a six-month time span. Her beautiful balayage, blonding, pastels and styling are just a few of the reasons, along with her stellar personality, that we invited Gray to join our Artist Connective.

We were recently stopped in our tracks when we came across a video posted to Gray's page. In the video, she demos how she used the Green color from Aloxxi's Ultra Hot Fashion Tones to create a gorgeous rose gold finish, and we knew we had to find out more details.

"The Ultra Hot Fashion Tones from Aloxxi are genius," Gray says. "The consistency is perfect and the shine is brilliant. The lightener mixes like a dream and lifts gently but also quickly."

Gray says she also gets soft color results with incredible shine using Aloxxi’s Ultra Hot Intense Semi-Permanent
Color. Each shade is formulated with the brand’s Advanced Direct Dye Technology for more even color results that fade on tone. They can be intermixed for easy customization.

Sadie's Steps:

  • First I did teasy lights in slices and applied in a diagonal back angle, full saturated through the ends. 

  • I used Aloxxi Ultra Lightener with 20 volume. My ratio was one 1 part lightener to 1.5 parts developer.

  • I incubated with foils and processed until she was lifted to about a level 8, preserving some warmth in her hair. (If you lift the hair to be too light/level nine or higher, the end result will be more pink rather than rose gold.) I shampooed her hair using their 7 Essentials Luxury Shampoo and then towel dried her hair.

  • For the Rose Gold, I customized a mixture using Aloxxi Ultra Hot Fashion Tones:

    • Clear (a heaping table spoon)

    • Red (about a quarter size)

    • Green (2 pea size drops)

    • Yellow (nickle size)

    • **** Once I knew that mixture was just right, I doubled the ratio to allow for plenty of product to saturate her hair. 

  • Applied over her damp hair, I allowed it to process for 10 minutes. *You can process for up to 15 minutes for more vibrancy; but I wanted to allow for the color to have a pastel feel to it, so I rinsed 5 minutes early.  

  • I finished off her look with Aloxxi Dry Oil Shine Mist.
