CND's Joby Leahy is a former university level public speaking teacher. While Jan Arnold, the FACE of CND, may not need his advice, there are many of us who do.
"Your audience will size you up within five seconds," Joby told me at break during the Premiere Show in Orlando. "Instead of coming out and saying 'thank you for having me', come out and say 'I have information that is going to make your life easier'. You have now grabbed that audience and they will listen to you."
Joby points out that you must present yourself as an authority in your area. "Your audience is there because they want to learn about their craft. They want to know how to make more money or get more information. Be there with something they want or need to know."
As far as fashion is concerned, Joby has more good advice. "Just wear something that is comfortable. If you are constantly adjusting, it can be distracting. You don't want to wear something that will take away from what you have to say or offer." When asked if its okay to wear black, Joby says "Oh sure. If that is what you wear to make you more confident, that is the most important thing." Phew.
