Love 'em or hate 'em one thing is certain about the Kardashian-Jenner family: they are major style and beauty trend setters--especially on the hair scene. The sisters' hair cuts, color and extensions are some of the most-Googled searches.
And Kendall and Kylie Jenner, daughters of Kris and Bruce Jenner, have certainly made their mark in beauty! From walking in runway shows at New York Fashion Week, to their outfit of the day blog, to modeling for major advertising campaigns, these "it girls" are in the spotlight now more than ever.
Joico celebrity stylist George Papanikolas had the opportunity to upgrade the sisters' hair color just recently using Joico Vero K-PAK Color and lightener for a teen-perfect finish that's shiny, healthy and salon friendly!
Kylie opted for a quintessentially Kardashian dramatic, deep brunette, while her sister Kendall received a totally on-trend balayage highlight enhancement (NOT ombre!) for her natural medium-brown hue.
Here, George shares his color strategies:
Kendall had virgin hair so when she asked Papanikolas for a subtle upgrade of her natural Level 5.5 medium brown color, he kept it natural looking but enhanced.

He created balayage highlights with Joico K-PAK VeroLight Lightener + 40-volume developer, and applied the formula in a v-shape—finer at the roots and midlengths and heavier at the ends--and lifted the color to golden blonde.
“It’s best not to lift brunette hair super light,” he says. Then he glossed her hair from base to ends for five minutes at the bowl with Joico Vero K-PAK Chrome Demi-Permanent Color ½ A7 + ½ A9 + Activator to neutralize any warmth.
Though Kylie requested "black" hair, color expert Papanikolas knew that "black" would most likely be a regret, given how often Kylie changes her style. "Black color tends to look too dull and inky,” he explains. “Plus I know how young girls are—they change their hair color all the time. So I decided to make life easy for myself when she comes back. This dark brown formula looks 'black' but it’s still shiny and reflective.”
Formula: Joico Vero K-PAK Chrome Demi-Permanent Color ¾ N4 + ¼ N1 + Activator applied to Kylie’s Level 5 hair, base to ends, processed for 20 minutes.
