Meghan Moran (@meghan_moran_matrix_hair), an artistic educator for Matrix Professional, has been a stylist for the past seven years at TarraDean Studio in Onset, MA. "This new client came in with  2 1/2" new growth of a level 6 and 7 around hairline," says Moran. "She had an existing band of artificial color of a level 5 throughout, as well as patches of levels 6 and 7.  She had gone to a stylist who did a partial foil just around her face giving her level 9 highlights."

Here Moran shares the details for this makeover:

Step 1: Begin at the nape of her neck. Apply in a balayage technique the following: On the dark band (level 5) - 1 scoop of Matrix Light Master lightener with 1oz 30 volume Matrix cream developer.  On the level 6 - Matrix Light Master lightener with 20 volume developer. On the lighter level 7 pieces - Matrix Light Insider (ammonia free lightener) with 30 volume Coloriniser Oil developer. Also use this formula to balayage the new growth with a 'baby light' technique.

Step 2: Process to a level 9. Rinse, shampoo and apply 'Instacure' for protein. Allow that to "sit" in the hair while applying color to the front.

Step 3: Use the same formulas only place in foils "in order to weave out the previous highlighted pieces. Balayage in between the foils with the Light Insider formula." Rinse, shampoo and towel dry.

Step 4: To the back apply Matrix ColorSync Demi-permanent 1oz of 8P (pearl) with equal parts of 10 volume Matrix cream developer. To the remaining hair, roots to ends, apply 10P with equal parts of 10 volume. Process 20 minutes then shampoo, condition and style.
