Kelly Ries (@boldsandblended) of Ellicott City, Maryland, says her new client was just not happy with her color. “She had been several places and kept asking for a dark brown with balayage and wasn’t getting the depth or dimension that she wanted.”

Here is what Ries did to add more contrast and meet her request:

STEP 1: Color regrowth (some grey) with Paul Mitchell XG color 4N.

STEP 2: Balayage in V formation using Wella Blondor +20 volume with Olaplex added.

STEP 3:  Apply base color in the middle space of the “V” to create dimension.

STEP 4: Color about 4-5 inches of mids in between foils with base color. Melt down to ends with 5N+6N.

STEP 5: Process for 20 minutes. Shampoo with Paul Michell Awaphui Wild Ginger.
