"When my regular client sat down in my chair and told me she wanted to go to the total other end of the level swatch I naturally was sad to say goodbye to her beautiful blonde palette," says Dana Dautel (@danalynnhair) of Salon Head Candy, Cherry Hill, NJ. "We had worked months on getting her hair healthy this light and we usually would go back and forth between full heads of vivids and icy blondes on her regular visits. We decided to keep her underneath a vivid so we could still have fun under the blue black base. I chose not to fill her before applying her blue black base to the top half as it will make life much easier for removing the level 2 down the road. We all know those fashion color clients don't stay the same color for too long!"
Here Dautel shares the how-to, what she describes as "a simple process for a big change!":
Step 1: Section hair in a horseshoe section incorporating the crown. Color the upper section with Wella Color Touch 2/ and a ribbon of /88 with 6 volume. The lower section I filled with Wella Color Touch in equal parts 7/89, 8/81 and /88 with 6 volume leaving a rich denim blue perfect for overlaying with vivids for intensity.
Step 2: Process for 35 minutes and rinse with cold water. Shampoo with Bumble and Bumble Gentle Shampoo. No conditioner. Rough dry the hair.
Step 3: Apply a custom mix of Arctic Fox haircolor in Poseidon, Aquamarine and a dab of Transylvania for the beautiful deep Sapphire blue underneath.
Step 4: Process under heat for 20 minutes. Rinse in cold water. No shampoo. Condition with Bumble and Bumble Gentle Conditioner. Rinse and blown out sleek with Arrojo Hair Creme.
