Makeover: Young Gray

"Lisa was a new client who was liberated when she chose to go gray, but felt older than she expected to feel once her hair had grown out," says Eva Scrivo (@evascrivosalons),  owner of the 2 Eva Scrivo Salons, NYC, and founder of the Eva Scrivo Academy. "Asked by her husband to not cut her hair short, she requested a style that would make her feel 'sexy and young' again, without starting the process of coloring every 3-4 weeks. We decided during our consultation that she would be open to low-lights and an overall violet glaze for the color, and a square layered bob for the cut."

Here Scrivo shares the HOW TO:

Step 1: Using the balayage technique and Scrivo's signature halo sectioning, apply 1/4 inch highlights, 1 1/4 inches apart to add dimension, ("which also made her gray hair look more like a highlight.") Formula: Goldwell Silklift and Topchic with 20 volume developer.

Step 2: For lowlights, apply Goldwell 4N with 20 volume where desired.

Step 3: Process for 30 minutes and then rinse.

Step 4: Tone with Logics 10v with 10 volume and process for 10 minutes.

Step 5: Using a Bumble and Bumble by Feather straight-blade (razor without a guard), create a traditional bob line. Using the bottom length as the guideline, square layers were cut along the head-shape and a side swept bang was added, hitting the bottom of her cheekbone to strengthen her bone structure.

Step 6: Style using a medium round brush with a generous amount of Kaze Wave sensual mousse by Shu Uemera.
