GET SOCIAL
One of the first sold out workshops of 2020 was the social media class, hosted by MODERN SALON Media. “Get Social: Creating Your Own Voice” was two-day workshop blending business and hands-on instruction. The sold-out group of 50 salon pros were guided on building their own brand story, creating engaging content and learning how to leverage social platforms to attract clientele.
Day one, led by MODERN editors Maggie Mulhern @modernmaggie1 and Alison Alhamed @alisonalhamed, covered all the elements necessary to create an attractive page from finding the perfect handle and writing the perfect bio, to more advanced concepts such as diving into the “Insights” feature to track engagement and learn more about followers. It was a full-day of intense education designed to build a following to bring more clients in to the salon.
Day two helped attendees turn that knowledge in to practical results. A panel discussion was led by high profile and successful influencers including Alex Rivera @alexfaction, Natalie Thomas @bridal_bynatalie and Emma Campolieti @_emmaco_. Each shared personal insight into his or her own social journey and then offered tips on writing engaging captions, proper hashtagging, taking perfect pictures and photo editing.
The highlight for many attendees was working on live models to create finishes for their own Instagram pages, all while under the guidance of the influencers. The panelists then projected some of the images captured by attendees to a large screen and edited them live for the audience, using their favorite apps to clean up the backgrounds, refine certain features and do whatever needed to create a “post-worthy” photo.
All attendees were awarded a diploma and left armed with the best practices and knowledge needed to speak to their own demographic.
