Of course celebs need fabulous hair color, but what’s the secret to consistent color when a movie crew shoots a portion of a scene, then picks up the rest six months later? Celebrity stylist and colorist Robert Hallowell, who developed his all-natural “Prawduct” hair care line based on super-star demands, relies on shrewd use of color-pigmented shampoo. The frequency depends on the actual color, he says.

“To evenly maintain a brilliant red or rich brunette, I use a pigmented shampoo two to three times a week,” says Hallowell, who did just that for Geena Davis when she appeared in “Commander in Chief,” and Courtney Cox on her TV show “Dirt.”

Outdoors, color looks best in the late morning or early afternoon; indoors, backlighting and HD technology harshly illuminate every strand. Keep this in mind when photographing your work. “Mostly, it’s about keeping the correct tone,” says Hallowell.
