PEEK-A-BOO Color On Client With Albinism

Tarah Smeal (@Tarahdoeshair), a hair stylist at Bow + Arrow Salon, Roseville, California, says "Being a hair stylist isn't just a job. It's my life. I wake up every morning and have the ability of making people's whole day change in one appointment."

For this client, Smeal was able to do just that. "I had the amazing opportunity to give someone something that she never thought she could have: HAIR COLOR. My client has Albinism. She retains no pigment in her hair, skin or eyes. She grew up with family telling her she could never color her hair because it won't take, it will ruin her hair and it will ruin her." Smeal did a test strand, "And her hair was amazing but just one strand was not enough!!"

Here Smeal shares the HOW TO for a color design that "took", did not ruin her hair and made both client and artist happy:

Step 1: Isolate the crown to keep as a drape. Take 1/2 inch thick (and about 2.5 inch wide) diagonal sections from the back and place on foil. Apply Matrix .50 oz of 6rv .25 of 4rv and .25 of hd-rr, mixed with 10 volume from off root to end.

Step 2: Process for 45 minutes.

Step 3: Rinse in cool water to keep the color from staining her very white, see-through hair.

Step 4: Shampoo and condition with Sebastian Drench. Towel dry and apply Pureology Silk Bodifier and Sebastian's Thermal Protectant. Round brush and finish with Kenra Texture Taffy and Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum.
