Think October and think orange? Think again. Pink has become the reigning color for the fall month. All you have to do is turn on the TV where NFL players are sporting pink accents, or walk into a neighborhood coffee shop to see pink decorations and a special brew, proceeds of which go to Breast Cancer Awareness causes. For the hair industry, the cause is one close to many hearts and this month, people in the beauty industry are going all out in their efforts to fundraise, honor friends and family, and create awareness.

Here are some of the ways beauty people are supporting the cause.

OPI
Pink Bling
Here's one great fundraiser, and if you want to participate, time's running out. My Element Style, the creators of the fabulous designer disinfectant jars, are offering up a one-of-a-kind pink Bling Stella jar, embellished with Swarovski crystals. The jar is up for auction on Ebay until Sunday, October 18th. One-hundred percent of the proceeds from the auction go to Susan G. Komen For the Cure. Get bidding and you could give your styling station a pink boost!
Pure Pink
Hair care company Pravana is also donating some of their profits to Susan G. Komen. Founder and president, Steve Goddard, knows first hand the effects of the disease, after his mother-in-law was diagnosed. So in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, the company is donating one-hundred percent of the profits from two of their best selling products, Pure Light Brightening Shampoo and Conditioner, which are presented in a silk pink mesh bag at a special promotional price.
"Working as beauty professionals, it is likely that someone special in
our lives has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Whether it is your
mother, sister, aunt, friend, client, or in my case, my dear
mother-in-law, Peggy Bell, we are all touched by this devastating
disease," says Goddard. "Because women are the very heart and soul of
our business, it is vital that we lend support to further research for
a cure. I urge you to do something wonderful with your beauty skills to support the cause. It only takes a wave of your color brush to make a difference and resonate the generous giving and loving nature of our business."

Pink of Hearts
For the third year in a row, OPI has created a special Pink of Hearts Nail Lacquer to support Susan G. Komen. The 2009 edition of Pink of Hearts is a pretty, empowering light color, meant to inspire and uplift. "OPI is proud to join with Komen for a third year, with Pink of Hearts
2009," says Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director. "It is OPI's way support the effort to end this disease, to honor
those affected by it, and to give all women the power to help make a
difference." In addition to the special lacquer, OPI has pledged a donation of $25,000 to Komen for the Cure and $5,000 to Rethink Breast Cancer in Canada.
