City of Hope’s Positive Image Center is being remodeled thanks in part to City of Hope’s 30-year partnership with the professional salon industry. With a philosophy of caring for patients in not only healing the body but also strengthening, nurturing and sustaining the spirit, City of Hope established the Positive Image Center to show patients of all ages how to minimize the cosmetic side effects of illness or medical treatment. Cosmetologists have been providing complimentary guidance in skin care, hair loss solutions and other appearance-related issues. This latest remodel, furnished by Belvedere, will make these services even more comfortable for the patients.
The announcement was made by Harlan Kirschner at a special City of Hope reception hosted by City of Hope's Kelly Mayfield and held during America’s Beauty Show 2014 in Chicago. Kirschner will be honored on July 12 with the City of Hope’s Spirit of Life Award. He is a long-time supporter of City of Hope and cancer causes. Kirschner promised the roomful of invited guests at the reception that this year’s Spirit of Life dinner will be a “night to remember.” He said the event, with a theme of “Celebrating Cures,” will include a silent auction and will depart from previous years in a noticeable absence on the tables of the event’s journal—which will be mailed to attendees a week later and will include photos from the evening as well as research conducted by MODERN SALON to gain insight into hairdressers’ health concerns.Elaborating on the research,

MODERN SALON Publisher Steve Reiss told the group that this year will mark the first annual Healthy Hairdresser Survey.“Hairdressers take care of everyone but themselves,” Reiss said. “At MODERN SALON, we started to think about how we could create greater awareness and turn that awareness into something that truly can be beneficial. Our answer was ‘Healthy Hairdresser.’ We feel strongly that there must be one umbrella cause for our industry. With the results of the survey, we will identify problems and begin to understand what the industry needs.”
