MODERN Facebook fan Megan Allen, a stylist in Smithfield, North Carolina, at Salon 29:11 has been doing hair for only 12 months.... and one of her favorite things about having her license is being able to introduce the beauty of professional hair color to her clients who may, unfortunately, have experienced damage or murky color results from using hair color purchased at the drugstore.
"This is my client Emily, she wanted to move away from box color and get some professional hair rescue," she says. "With some great color and a good hair cut that's just what I gave her!"

Existing: Hair had variations of reds with combinations of dark and light brown at the nape Goal: Create a shade of a gorgeous red with brown at the nape (on the longer lengths) paired with honey highlights under her part. Red: 2 oz. of Joico Vero K-PAK Color 5RM and 2 oz. of 10-volume developer Dimension: 2 oz. of Joico Vero K-PAK Color 5B and 2 oz. of 10-volume developer Highlights: 1 scoop Joico Vero blue bleach with 20-volume developer
Application: I separated the top of the hair from the nape, and applied the Red Formula first on the new growth, and then applied the brown at the nape to her new growth. Processed for 25 mins. Then I pulled the color through the ends starting with the red and then the brown. I processed the ends at 15 mins, then shampooed and conditioned the hair with Joico K-PAK. Next, I parted the hair in a horseshoe parting so the highlights stay underneath her natural hair parting, so she wouldn't have to worry too much about new growth maintenance, and I did two foils on each side and three down the back. I processed without heat for about 20 mins and then shampooed and conditioned the hair. I styled her hair using a 1" curling iron to give it soft waves and to show off her highlights.
