When her client came in looking for a big cut, Sophia Knoppe (@sophiaknoppe), of of Vanity Hair Studio in O'Fallon, MO, encouraged her to "start slowly because she has always had long hair and friends warned her that she would regret it."

Knoppe started off in the first session by knocking off 7-8 inches. "She came back two weeks later ready to go the rest of the way and took another four." The color also helped with the beautiful finish. "She had come to me for an ombre 2 years beforehand and  the lighter pieces were what was left after the cut. We are planning a pink ombre next now that the 12 inches are gone."

Here Knoppe shares the HOW TO:

Step 1: While the hair was dry, section her into four quadrants and cut into a blunt, one length haircut ending right below her shoulders.

Step 2: Pull out pie shaped sections to a 45 degree angle. Using thinning shears at another 45 degree, point cut to soften the bottom to give her texture without the necessity of layers.

Step 3: Style was done with a styling wand, finished with a wide tooth comb and Joico's Hair Shake Texturizing Spray. Haircut was done with Hattori Hanzo HH31 6" and HH30T.
