“This look is one of the most popular looks I do: the Lily Aldridge golden-blonde ombre,” Cunningham says. “This trend looks great on all haircolors, which makes it that much more popular and versatile. To maximize the ombre effect and lighten the ends, use two different highlight formulas.”
FORMULA AND APPLICATION
Natural level 3, dark brown
Formula 1: 1 oz Natural (.0) Redken Blonde Idol High Lift Conditioning Cream with 2 oz 30-volume Pro-oxide Cream Developer
Formula 2: 1 oz Natural (.0) Blonde Idol High Lift Conditioning Cream with 2 oz 40-volume Pro-oxide Cream Developer
Formula 3: ½ oz 09B Sterling Shades EQ Gloss + ½ oz 09N Café Au Lait Shades EQ Gloss + 1 oz Crystal Clear Shades EQ Gloss with 2 oz Shades EQ Processing Solution
1. Begin by sectioning. Start at the left temple and create a horseshoe-shaped section that ends on the opposite side. From the left side temple, make a curved parting across the top of the head that ends in front of the right ear. Then make a vertical parting in the center back to divide left from right.
2. Starting in front of the left ear, place a ¼-inch slice on a foil. Apply Formula 1 on a slight angle and saturate to the ends. Turn the brush perpendicular and blend toward the scalp area. Continue to place sections on the same foil, using the first section as a guide. Complete the left side and repeat on the opposite side.
3. Place a ¼-inch slice from curved top section on foil. Continue with same application method, over-directing slices on to the first foil. (Change to Formula 2 when needed to balance processing times.) Complete the section, then process at room temperature to pale yellow, or for up to 50 minutes. Shampoo, apply Redken Chemistry Extreme and dry the hair.
4. Apply Formula 3, using a global application. Process at room temperature for 20 minutes. Shampoo and condition with Redken Blonde Idol.
