Tokyo's Drugstore Hair Color, Eyelid Crease Tape and Nail Art

While in Tokyo, we stopped by a drugstore to spend time looking at the hair color, make-up and skin care offered--and looked at some of the trends of the city.

On day two of Pivot Point International's study abroad trip to Tokyo, it was a day of people-watching, sight-seeing and taking in the beautiful people and places that make up this magnificent city.

Our group noticed that many of the young women here bleach their hair to levels of red-orange, orange and orange gold.

Though, of course, there are blondes here as well, along with brunettes and natural hair, the copper-colored, cinnamon look is extremely trendy.

Also popular is a thick, blunt fringe. (As you can see from these pics, nail art is spotted on nearly every young woman we interact with, along with a stilleto-shaped nail.)

On our way back to the hotel this evening we popped into a drugstore and saw loads of hair color on the shelves. Spicy Cinnamon and Sugar Donut are some of the hair color names--and the boxes feature pictures of candies, ice cream and sweets on the packaging.

We also noticed Japanese Eye Crease Tape on many of the shelves.

After a few quick searches online, we learned that the tape is used cosmetically to create a double-lid effect on the eye--creating a visible crease in the eyelid.

The tape comes in pre-cut, double-sided strips that apply like a bandaid of sorts. It can also be used to correct uneven eyelids (which, after more Googling, is more common that I thought!).

An alternative to the tape is eyelid glue that you apply using an eyelid fork to adhere the eyelid skin to the glue to create a new crease.

As our group continues to travel and take in the sights and sounds of Tokyo, I'll keep you posted and share more beauty bits!
