"My sister is low maintenance when it comes to her hair," says Erin Doumert (@erindoumert), owner of Salon Elle, La Jolla, California. "She wanted something done to her hair but didn't want to have to maintain it. She is a single mom who lives six hours away from me. She used baking soda to shampoo her hair and never uses conditioner so her hair was very dry and straw like," she adds.
Here, Doumert offers how she brought her sister from her virgin, natural level 5 to a dimensional, fresh and interesting caramel swirl finish.
Formula 1: 60 grams of Aveda Dust-Free Powder Enlighter, 90 grams of Color Catalyst 40 volume, and 1/4 ounce of Olaplex Bond Multiplier.
Formula 2: Aveda Full Spectrum Deposit Only hair color: 80 grams of 9N, 4 grams of light V/B, 4 grams of light Y/O, 80 grams of Crème Color Treatment Activator, 1/4 oz Olaplex Bond Multiplier.
Step 1: Begin the dimensional color starting at the nape. Take 2-3 inch sections following her natural wave pattern. Backcomb each section with a boar bristle comb. Place the ends on a foil, saturating the ends with Formula 1. Secure the section by lightly placing a foil on top (making sure to not bend or firmly press the foils together).
Step 2: As you work up to the crown, visualize the flow of the natural growth and wave pattern. Backcomb each section tighter at the underneath and lightly backcombed the top part of each section. Continue placing each section on a foil, using formula 1, highly saturating the ends, lightly saturating up each section.
Step 3: Using a balayage technique, paint small pieces of hair to give a seamless look.
Step 4: Process with heat for 20 minutes, lifting to a level 10.
Step 5: Rinse, towel dry and saturate with Olaplex Bond Perfector. Comb through with a Wet Brush, Process for 10 minutes. Rinse and wash with Aveda Dry Remedy Shampoo. Towel dry.
Step 6: Apply Formula 2 from root to ends. Process for 20 minutes. Rinse, towel dried and spray Aveda Botanical Moisture Treatment in each section saturating roots to ends. Apply Kevin Murphy's Young Again Masque, using a Wet Brush to comb through.
Step 7: Process for 10 minutes with a hot steaming towel. Rinse with cool water. Then apply four drops of Aveda Dry Remedy Moisturizing Oil to the ends and one pump of Kevin Murphy Smooth.Again Anti-frizz Treatment to towel-dried hair from mid shaft to ends.
