Berlinda Anguiana (@b.shangrila) of Shangrila Hair Studio, Corona, California, had a potential client that just wouldn't give up. "This wasn't my guests first visit with me," says Anguiana. "She had actually come in before. I refused her believe it or not! Her hair was in such bad shape. She was overprocessed to the point where I could see it without having to touch it. Normally I'd run to Olaplex but it just was a no brainier: DON'T TOUCH IT! She begged but I just couldn't until she got it in better shape. I insisted she focus on growing out what she could and trimming it. So ponytails were her best friend, until, finally, color day!"
Here Anguiana shares the HOW TO after a trim and reshaping:
STEP 1: Begin at the root. Blend Paul Mitchell N + series, 5N+ + (a dash) 4N+ + 20 vol. Apply for gray coverage, starting at the front, finishing towards the back. Stroke the color towards the midshaft. Process for 15 minutes. Do not rinse.
STEP 2: Blend Redken Shades EQ 4nb +6gb + ( small amount) 6N. Apply, focusing on the mids and leaving out the ends.
STEP 3: Now dampen the ends with water (to dilute) and apply the remaining Shades EQ formula to the ends. Process for 20 minutes.
STEP 4: Shampoo with Paul Mitchell Color Protect and condition with Awapuhi Wild ginger The Rinse conditioner. Rinse. Apply Awapuhi Wild Ginger Intensive Treatment and process for 5 minutes. Rinse.
STEP 5: Spray with Paul Mitchell Color Repair Triple Rescue and a bit of Fast Form. Then dried smooth. Style with 1 1/4 curling iron and finish with Awapuhi styling treatment oil.
