TRANSFORMATION: Muddy Gold To Bright Beige

Kiley Potter an artist at Salon Glō in Valencia, CA. and an Artistic Educator for Matrix, is a balayage specialist with a signature style she describes as a  "textured unkempt look." When we saw this design on her Instagram page, we asked for more details.

"Alex had been trying to find a stylist closer to where she went to school and ended up trying a few places which caused multiple lightening/darkening/lightening sessions which damaged her hair. It also caused her to have many different shades of colors in her hair as well, resulting in a muddy gold blonde. I wanted to clean everything out and get her back to a harmony of tones in the beige and light blonde category. I also took off about 5 inches to get rid of the damage while also going for a new look."

Here Potter shares the HOW TO:

Step 1: Do a partial weave in foils using Matrix Light Master and 20 volume developer.

Step 2: Balayage below the rounds of the head in 1/4 inch subsections from 1/2 to 1 inch sections. Balayage using Matrix Light Insider and 30 volume developer. TIP: "My little trick for full weaves is to balayage the underneath instead of foil. It looks nicer because that is where the hair lays flat on the head and shows every line. Balayaging takes care of that issue. It also is quicker than foiling so it ensures everything processes evenly!"

Step 3: Return to the foiled area. In between every other foil apply a lowlight to the hair left out in between using Matrix Color Sync 1oz 10n + 1/2oz Sheer Pastel Neutral + 1 1/2oz 10 volume developer "The color will be sandwiched between the two foils to ensure no color transfer."

Step 4: Process steps 1 - 3 simultaneously for 15 minutes after placing the last lowlight. Shampoo.

Step 5: Tone the base first using Matrix Color Sync 3oz Sheer Pastel Violet + 3oz 10 volume. Process for 5 minutes and then apply to the rest of the hair. Process for an addtional 10 minutes. Rinse.
