TRANSFORMATION: Ready For A Big Change

Rianne Zakar (@rianne_zakar), a Senior Stylist and Educator at Salon Halo, Spring Hill, Florida, says "My guest hasn't been to see me in quite some time. I previously did basic highlight/lowlight type applications using Paul Mitchell color and lighteners. This time she was ready for a big change. After consulting, looking over inspiration and discussing aftercare, we began."

After cutting the excess length, Zakar shares the color HOW TO:

STEP 1: Using Paul Mitchell Dual Purpose Lightener, hand paint the hair using horizontal slices starting in the nape. Working up the head, isolate the sections of painted hair in foil and cotton toward the base. ("When painting above the ears I made the sections slightly smaller and was mindful of the finer 'baby hairs' around her hairline.")

STEP 2: Process 45 minutes with no heat and 5 with very low heat.

STEP 3: At the shampoo bowl dampen and emulsify the hair and let sit a few moments. Shampoo gently with Awapuhi Wild Ginger Moisturizing Lather Shampoo. Towel dry.

STEP 4: Quickly apply a base softening with 8NN Paul Mitchell The Color XG with a 1/2 inch ribbon of both Violet and Blue intensifier and 20 volume developer. Process in the time it takes to apply after working through the ends. Rinse.

STEP 5: Shampoo with Dual Purpose Lightener and water on the ends to remove the excess toner that absorbed on the most porous previous highlighted bits. Follow with AWG Shampoo and Keratin Cream Rinse ("My guest took the Shampoo,Cream Rinse and Intensive Treatment home for aftercare, a must.")

STEP 6: Dress the final color and cut using Fast Form and Styling Treatment Oil before her blowout and a Paul Mitchell ProTools wand for some quick waves.
