Alisha Jared (@alishajaredhairartistry) from Siren Salon in Vancouver, WA loves a good transformation. "I live for the minute I can put a before and after side by side and see the change," she says. "As a hairstylist, we can be the worst clients. Neglecting your own hair is very common in our industry and is exactly the case for my co-worker. She had a grown out, balayage ombré that needed refreshed and a black band between her new growth and prelightened ends needed addressed. Above all she just needed a change. We were looking to make an even, but still dimensional, canvas without further compromising the integrity of her hair."
Here Jared shares the HOW TO:
Formula A: Joico Vero Kpak Permanent Color 5G + 5B = 4N + 10 Vol Veroxide in a 1:1 ratio.
Formula B: Joico Chrome N6 + N8 + G6 + B7 + Joico Chrome Activator in a 1:2 ratio.
STEP 1: Section into quadrants and apply Formula A as if you were doing a standard root touch-up. Feather base color down 3 inches. Continue through all 4 quadrants.
STEP 2: Return to first quadrant and take 1/2-3/4" horizontal subsections. Bring Formula A down in varying depths being mindful of desired placement of dimension. Apply Formula B to remaining hair in subsection. ("We wanted to keep lightness around her face, so I framed her face with my lighter formula, as well as random pieces throughout.")
STEP 3: Process at room temperature for 30 minutes and then rinse, shampoo and condition with Davines Minu.
STEP 4: Even out the haircut, as its growing out of an old a-line, added texture and lightened her ends with lots of texturizing. Style with Davines Love Curl Cream, Sam Villa Blow Dryer, NuMe 32mm curling wand, and Joico Hair Shake.
Adds Jared, "Adding dimension by incorporating a second formula (2 levels lighter and in the same tonal family) to a brunette client's hair is my favorite way to take a standard all over color to the next level and wow my client."
