MODERN SALON recently asked its Twitter followers, "What are your tricks for getting just the right shade of red and making it last?"

Here's what a few of our followers had to say:

@Rodrigorosa1969 Puts the same tone as I put in the hair, inside of a shampoo to go home with, that way it maintains your reds longer and better!

@dariennelake Perfect shade of red; hold color choices up to their eyes. If they sparkle, it's the right shade. Goldwell Color Glow to retain!

@HairGirlDenver Reds-usually using a little higher volume to reveal some more warmth in the hair: i.e. going up 1 level use 20v instead of 10v. Also glossing treatments with lots of pigment to refresh midshaft and ends. Don't wash everyday-water is the enemy!
