In my book Industry In:Site, 101 Top Beauty Careers, I outline the many paths a beauty pro can take in this wonderful industry. Here I offer a brief sketch of what it takes to go into manufacturing and to work with one of the many beauty companies to bring a product to market.
The Make Up
Not many of us can live without beauty products. How many have you used today? Hairspray, lip gloss, facial moisturizer, shampoo, lotion, gel, and fragrance are all a part of our daily routine. Just about everybody uses some type of beauty product on a regular basis. Many well known brands used today were started by someone who saw needs and developed products to meet those needs. Through visionary effort, hard work, and resilience they created a legacy.
Regimen
In the beginning, much time and thought is put into the values, mission, and vision of the brand. Creative ideas, development, and marketing strategies are then incorporated to begin the product’s life cycle (the time and process from the development stage of a product to the innovation or retirement of a product). Product manufacturers work closely with cosmetic chemists to develop a product’s features and benefits. They also work to secure distribution and retail avenues.
