You know when MTV throws a party, you’re going to want to tune in early to catch some hopelessly fun, sometimes off-the-wall looks on the red carpet. This year’s MTV Movie Awards red carpet may have been a little more glamorous than off-the-wall, but the stars definitely didn’t disappoint. Let’s check out a few of the most talked-about celebrity looks and hear from the stylists who created them.
Stone made most of the best-dressed lists for the evening—surprise, surprise—and her hair and makeup looks weren’t far behind. Stylist Mara Roszak complemented Stone’s flawlessly fresh makeup and pink lip by creating this loosely twisted updo with an edge, keeping her overall look elegant but fun.
Recreate the look:
Roszak first applied Sebastian Professional Mousse Forte to Stone’s towel-dried hair before twisting and bobby pinning random, 1-inch sections of hair toward the back of the head. After blow drying until dry and letting the twists fall out, she worked a dollop of Wella Professionals Texture Touch to the ends for extra texture and twisted the hair on either side of the forehead, connecting at the back of the head. Finally, after securing these twists in place with bobby pins, she teased the rest of the hair and pinned into a messy bun, letting pieces fall out naturally.

Fitting that Banks’ style may have stood out the most on the red carpet, as she later ended up snagging an award for her outrageous on-screen transformation into Effie Trinket in “The Hunger Games.” The big screen star’s body-hugging, lacy jumpsuit turned a few heads, but her clean, high-placed bun created caught a few glances, as well.
Recreate the look:
If it looks like a knot…it is a knot. Cho pulled back the hair to the crown with a mixed boar bristle brush to smooth as she went and gathered a high ponytail, secured with an elastic. She then split the hair into sections and tied a knot, leaving some ends free to tuck and secure under the know with bobby pins and U-pins. A little lightweight hold hairspray and voila!

SHAILENE WOODLEY
The queen of the delightfully messy braid continues to rule! Woodley wowed with her deep-plunging, sexy and sophisticated vest and pants combo, and her romantic fishtail braid with textured pieces naturally falling in front created an effortlessly chic look.

Recreate the look:
Stylist Jamal Hammadi ran shea cream through the ends of Shailene’s dry hair for styling and texture before constructing the loose, fishtail braid, leaving a few pieces to fall naturally and frame the face.
KRISTEN STEWART
She may have been solo without her co-star and main man, Robert Pattinson, but Stewart managed to let her hair down with event-appropriate, grunge rocker chic texture. Think: Undone, punk rock and sexy.
Recreate the look:
Before using only his hands to rough-dry the hair and create texture, stylist Adir Abergel applied strong hold volume mousse to Stewart’s roots. He then sectioned off the hair and used a half-inch curling iron to curl from roots to ends. Using his fingers, he separated the curls and side-swept the top of the hair to create the undone side part. To finish, he used beach spay and a diffuser to lock in the look.
