COLORISTS! Every time MODERN SALON posts a pic on Facebook of someone sporting hair reminiscent of hair chalking, you guys go nuts! This last time I posted a pic from MODERN fan Theresa Ferrer Contreras, it got 445 shares, 1,580 "likes" and nearly 300 comments. EVERYONE loves this look!
Theresa said she created it by using Paul Mitchell Inkworks for the base, prelightening the ends of the hair, then foiling in three demipermanent colors—layerig the lightest color first, then progressing to the darkest color. WOW!
Still, we were left wondering how you can create this look using pastel chalk for a more temporary look—afterall, that's what's been generating all the buzz! And, what a cool way to experiment with different colors of highlights for a rockin' temporary look for you, and of course your clients, to try on!
HERE'S HOW TO DO IT! Our Facebook fans say they love YouTube make-up artist and blogger Kandee Johnson's tutorial for creating the look. So, drumroll please, here it is!
What you'll need to recreate Kandee Johnson's hair chalking tutorial:
- A water bottle (optional)
- Soft Pastels Chalk (like from the art store) *DO NOT USE OIL PASTELS —it will stain the hair
- A flatiron or curling iron to seal in the color -Protective gloves
-The chalk may come off on your clothing, consider spraying your hair with hairspray to seal it in even more.
-Don't brush your hair too much after you chalk, it will come off on your brush and make a mess
-If you have blonde hair, you can skip the step of wetting your hair, if you do, it may make the color last longer than you'd like!
-Try layering your colors, beginning with the lightest first, then going over with darker colors
-Consider braiding your hair to really show off this look!
