When it comes to building a resort spa, Gaye Steinke, general manager of Allegria Spa in Beaver Creek, Colorado, is a bit of an expert. She served as spa consultant for the renovation and remodel of the property in 2006, helping to create a destination she calls “true to Colorado in materials” and “very clean and contemporary.” The spacious spa offers 23 treatment rooms, plus natural light and views of forests and mountains on all sides. The lobby soars two stories when guests walk in, and includes a huge glass art wall. In the treatment wing of the spa, framed pictures of 16 varieties of local wildflowers used in the treatments line the walls. Steinke says her favorite feature, though, is the Aqua Sanitas, a series of water features, including a co-ed pool, steam shower and tile chairs that guests can use as a prelude to the spa treatments. “It really engages all the different senses,” she says. “And could even be a treatment in and of itself.”
