Makeovers That Matter is a Los Angeles-based organization that helps give the homeless and veterans a second chance by offering free makeovers and more.

On Monday, November 9, at Paul Mitchell The School in Sherman Oaks, CA, soon-to-graduate students applied what they had learned to benefit a group of 16 veteran women.  Their efforts exemplify the "Success not shared is failure" motto of Paul Mitchell co-founder, John Paul DeJoria who was on hand to welcome the women and to share his insight into career--and life--success.    It was also the kick-off for Paul Mitchell's Color Your Confidence campaign, a hair color kit complete with product, tutorials and featuring a proud veteran women on the packaging art.

Michael John Derricott, a licensed stylist, was inspired to launch Makeovers That Matter to  help women look better on the outside and feel stronger on the inside.   He has partnered with Paul Mitchell previously and the makeovers included nails byORLY manicurists and makeup by Milani and Ultimate Face Cosmetics.

The women, many who are looking to get back into the work force, posed for an "After" photo together, ready to take on the world and to interview, network and navigate the work world with confidence.

In Dubai, Clients Visit the Salon Every Week. Here’s What That Market Can Teach You

In Dubai, a salon visit isn’t an appointment. It’s a weekly routine, and clients can spend $800 to $1,400 a month on it, according to Gaurav Tripathi of MADI International. On October 6-8, 2026, the market behind those numbers opens its doors as Beautyworld Dubai marks its 30th edition at the Dubai World Trade Centre, bringing together distributors, brands, stylists and salon owners from all over the world.
