Despite working in Los Angeles salons with star-studded client lists and celebrity followings, David John has remained grounded and grateful.

Despite working in Los Angeles salons with star-studded client lists and celebrity followings, David John has remained grounded and grateful. An in-demand stylist and colorist at Serge Normant at John Frieda in West Hollywood, this Wisconsin native most recently worked with Bridesmaids Kristen Wiig. He has also styled actresses Courtney Cox, Dana Delaney and supermodel Cheryl Tiegs. With a passion for color and a partiality for Lucille Ball, his career continues on a vibrant, positive path.
BORN AND RAISED: Midwest boy born and raised in La Crosse, Wisconsin. I am the youngest of seven and our family would spend summers on a small farm where we grew most of our own food.
STYLE PHILOSOPHY: I have quite an eclectic style and enjoy changing my look from day-to-day. Some days I don a classic Mad Men shirt-and-tie. The next day I might be sporting my hipster skinny-jeans and Chucks. It’s very important for me to be comfortable as well as stylish—which parallels my work philosophy: clients should be chic, current and have an ease and comfort wearing their unique look.
I WOULD LOVE TO MAKE-OVER: Demi Moore. Such a gorgeous woman—it would be so much fun give her a fresh, shorter style.
THE BEST PART OF MY JOB: The relationships we build are key to success and I love being one-on-one with my clients—really getting to know them. It’s wonderful to help people feel sexy and confident about the way they look.
MY FAVORITE CUT: A short-boyish cut that is side-swept with feathery soft edges. It is a perfect alternative to a bob, great for the wash-and-wear woman, yet stylish enough for the red carpet.
IF I HADN’T BECOME A HAIRDRESSER: Before joining the army to be a Russian linguist, I studied interior design. This passion has remained with me my whole life and I still love transforming a room into a warm and inviting space.
MY MOTTO: Challenge yourself with something new every day.
