Your clients have slapped snow tires on their cars, broken out the hats, scarves and mittens, and stocked up on the comfort food, but are they – and you – really ready for winter’s cold and snow? If they haven’t yet changed their skin routine for the dry and blustery months, then the answer is no. But it’s not too late for you to help them make the right changes. Here are some tips from Dr. David E. Bank, founder and director of the Center for Dermatology, Cosmetic and Laser Surgery in Westchester, New York, for helping skin make it through the winter!

Tip 1: Hydrate
Prevent drastic winter dryness before it starts by using moisturizing creams frequently. Clients should “use moisturizer within a minute or so of having a shower or bath as damp skin traps the water to help keep skin smooth and soft,” says Bank.

Tip 2: Exfoliate
According to Bank, “Dead skin builds up quicker in the winter’s dry heat.” He suggests exfoliation at least once a week to slough off the dead skin. Loofahs may be too harsh to use often but exfoliating cleansers with grains or glycolic-based cleansing products help skin renew itself naturally.

Tip 3: Remember the sunscreen
Remind your clients that winter is definitely not the time to slack off on sun protection. “Even if they can’t feel the heat of the sun, the UV rays are still present therefore still at risk for sun damage,” explains Bank. Using sunscreen or products that contain SPF ingredients are always a must even when the temperatures are freezing.

Tip 4: Other options
For individuals looking to take the utmost precautions to prevent winter damage, Bank suggests treatments such as microdermabrasion or diode lasers to partially or completely remove dry and sun-damaged skin keeping it smooth, soft, and radiant all winter long.

In Dubai, Clients Visit the Salon Every Week. Here’s What That Market Can Teach You

In Dubai, a salon visit isn’t an appointment. It’s a weekly routine, and clients can spend $800 to $1,400 a month on it, according to Gaurav Tripathi of MADI International. On October 6-8, 2026, the market behind those numbers opens its doors as Beautyworld Dubai marks its 30th edition at the Dubai World Trade Centre, bringing together distributors, brands, stylists and salon owners from all over the world.
