I'm in Berlin with the whole crew from Wella and their 2,000 guests from
60 different countries. We’re here not just soaking up some culture and
history, but watching the fantastic TREND VISION competition (more
about that in a later blog). I am one of 120 members of the
international press, invited here to enjoy the competition and learn
more about new products and trends.
Do I have an addiction to flatirons? You betcha. Am I proud of it? Totally! Check out this super-cool flatiron that has a sleek design, protects against hair breakage with Healing Stone Technology, and can straighten, curl, flip and style even the most unruly heads of hair.
This weekend, we're bringing you live updates from Wella's Trend
Vision '09, taking place in Berlin. The talented Justine Hornick,
representing the United States in the Young Talent category, will be
reporting for us on her experience and perspective as a competitor - good luck, Justine! - and we'll also have regular updates from Modern editor, Maggie Mulhern.

Scott Cole offers his last presentation as Fashion Director of Intercoiffure as he steps down after 2 years of offering and delivering incredible inspiration and education.
As hard as it is to
believe, John Paul DeJoria, CEO and co-founder of John Paul Mitchell
Systems, has never…that’s right NEVER…been honored by the salon
industry! He has received awards and nods worldwide for his charitable
work but has yet to be acknowledged by the salon world for his
contributions. The members of Intercoiffure America/Canada
decided to right that wrong and gave him the VISIONARY OF THE YEAR
AWARD at the most recent Trend Luncheon held this past Monday at the
Waldorf Hotel in New York City. Watch this video of John Paul's acceptance speech.
"Giving back is the new black," John Paul Dejoria said to Maggie Mulhern after the presentation. We are just renters on this planet and its important to leave the world in better shape for those who follow. Maggie grabbed the video camera and asked him how salon owners and stylists can and should follow in his footsteps and do more for their own communities and the world.
