Beauty industry publisher Milady, a part of Cengage Group, announced in a statement the company is offering its awareness course free during the month of October in honor of Domestic Abuse Awareness Month. Due to beauty professionals’ close and trusted relationships with their clients, Milady believes that all professionals should be educated on this critical topic. All professionals can be trained in what to look for, how to spot the signs, and how to be an ally to help victims become survivors.

“People enter this industry not just to pursue the work they love — they want to make a difference. This short, one-hour Domestic Violence Awareness course helps do that and is a simple way to shift how the world perceives beauty professionals.”

— Sandra Bruce, Milady SVP and general manager.

Milady partners with the Professional Beauty Association’s CUT IT OUT program (The Beauty Community Against Domestic Abuse) for this cause. CUT IT OUT builds awareness of domestic abuse through materials and training for industry professionals to recognize warning signs and safely refer clients to resources. It also includes the Strength in Beauty program, a grant application for beauty professionals who are domestic abuse survivors in need of assistance getting back on their feet.
