Celebrity stylists used OLAPLEX products, especially OLAPLEX Nº.7 Bonding Oil, to create Old Hollywood-inspired hairstyles on stars of The White Lotus for the 2024 Emmy Awards. See below for their breakdowns on how they achieved the glamorous styles.

Aubrey Plaza

Celebrity hairstylist Mark Townsend worked with Emmy nominee Aubrey Plaza on a chic, 1960s half-up hairstyle using OLAPLEX products. Plaza might have spent time in Italy for White Lotus, but for the 2024 Emmy Awards ceremony, her hairstyle was purely French ‘60s bombshell.

THE INSPIRATION: ‘60s French icons Catherine Deneuve and Brigitte Bardot

"The Emmys are finally here and I’m so happy I got to spend the day with my muse Aubrey Plaza!" says Townsend. "I was able to see the gorgeous Loewe gown Aubrey had chosen to wear a few days ago and my head exploded with inspiration.  We decided that a half up hairstyle would best suit the silhouette of the dress and I was so inspired by the way Catherine Deneuve and Brigitte Bardot wore their hair up so Aubrey and I looked at pictures of them to inspire us.”

How To Get Aubrey’s ‘60s-Inspired Updo:

  1. First, Plaza prepped her hair by cleansing with OLAPLEX No. 4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo and OLAPLEX No. 5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner.
  2. Then, Townsend applied a few drops of OLAPLEX Nº.7 Bonding Oil in her wet hair and combed through. “This lightweight oil is amazing to seal the cuticle, protect the hair from heat styling, and adds tons of shine to the hair,” he says.
  3. Next, Townsend added  OLAPLEX Volumizing Blow Dry Mist to her hair and blow-dried with a round mixed bristle brush to get as much movement and volume into her hair as possible. “I made sure to spray this on her roots at the crown to get lots of lift and volume.”
  4. Townsend then wrapped large sections of her hair around a 1-inch curling iron to add loose waves and more movement to her hair. “To give her lots of long lasting volume at the crown I liberally sprayed Olaplex 4D Clean Volume Dry Shampoo on her roots and lightly back combed the hair for lift.”
  5. For the next step, Townsend gathered the hair from the sides and top and wrapped them in a small bun and secured the bun just under the crown with eight Day Rate Beauty hair pins that match her hair color. “This gave her hair that ‘60s feeling we really wanted,” he adds.
  6. For the final touch, Townsend took a small amount of OLAPLEX No. 6 Bond Smoother in his hands and added a few drops of OLAPLEX No.7 Bonding Oil, mixing it together in his hands, and then raked it through all the hair in the back to tame any flyaway hairs and add loads of shine to her hair. To keep her freshly-cut fringe nice and full, he brushed it with OLAPLEX 4D Clean Volume Dry Shampoo. “I like to use dry shampoo on bangs instead of hairspray because hairspray can leave them looking wet and heavy whereas dry shampoo keeps them full."

Simona Tabasco

Celebrity stylist Peter Lux worked with nominee Simona Tabasco on a silver screen siren-inspired look using OLAPLEX. After her role in White Lotus, Tabasco inspired women everywhere to get an Italian bob. Now, with a longer length, she’s channeling Veronica Lake.

THE INSPIRATION: Old Hollywood with a modern twist

According to Peter Lux, the inspiration came directly from Simona.

“She was picturing an old Hollywood kind of look with a modern twist to it,” he says. “The look felt so right for the dress she was wearing. I feel like this look is never out of fashion, but it’s important to keep it modern and young by keeping the waves longer and retaining movement in the hair."

How To Get Simona's Homage To Old Hollywood

  1. First, Luxwashed and conditioned Tabasco’s hair with OLAPLEX No. 4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo and OLAPLEX No. 5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner.
  2. Next, he applied a generous amount of Volumizing Mist on the roots, followed by five drops of OLAPLEX Nº.7 Bonding Oil through the ends and mid-lengths, and one pump of OLAPLEX Nº.9 Bond Protector Nourishing Hair Serum for added heat protection.
  3. Next, he blow-dried the hair over a natural bristle round brush to seal in the product for maximum shine.
  4. Then, Lux used a medium-sized curling iron and curled the hair in a forward motion around the barrel and clipped each section. “Once all the hair has been curled I leave it cool out for five minutes,” he says.
  5. After removing the clips, Lux applied a couple of drops of the Nº.7 Bonding Oil through the hair. “I love using the Bonding Oil on wet hair before blow-drying as it provides the hair with nourishment and the shine it leaves on the hair is unmatched. My favorite product to start off any look."
  6. For the final step, Lux brushed Tabasco's hair thoroughly to blend the sections together for a ‘closed’ finish with a mirror shine, and then used hairspray to hold the style in place.

Extra Tips From Peter Lux

“If you want to try the look, always cuddle the hair towards the face to get that gorgeous wave. It’s important to brush out the sections very well to get that seamless blend. Sometimes it’s helpful to cuddle the hair a second time once it’s brushed out, which will make the hairstyle last and make the surface even more even,” Lux says.

Another favorite of Lux’s is the No. 6: “It’s got such a light texture to it yet it’s so nourishing, and I actually love it as a finishing product. A pea-sized amount rubbed between the palms of my hands and then carefully distributed through the ends and mid-lengths gives a silky-smooth finish and added shine and frizz protection.”

Beatrice Grannò

Celebrity stylist Rena Calhoun worked with Beatrice Grannò on a romantic, lived-in, wavy look that highlighted her signature fringe using OLAPLEX.

THE LOOK: Romantic Waves

According to Calhoun, Grannò loves a voluminous hairstyle, so she gave her bouncy, romantic waves that were a little undone but still very put-together.

“We were inspired by the dress, it’s really feminine and has floral appliques and sequins, and we wanted it to feel really soft and romantic," Calhoun explains. "It was really just about softness and femininity. She loves volume, so I wanted to give her as much volume as possible. And her bangs are kind of her signature. They’re super cute and frame her face really nicely.”

How To Get Beatrice's Romantic Waves

  1. First, Calhoun dampened Grannò’s hair to give it a completely neutral foundation to work with. “I usually like to do the bangs in the very beginning when the hair is wet because most people have cowlicks in their hairline,” says Calhoun. She used a wrap-drying technique to brush the bangs into shape.
  2. Next, Calhoun took inch-wide sections and sprayed the OLAPLEX Volumizing Blow Dry Mist through the roots while making sure the ends had as little product as possible. Once she sprayed the roots, she rough-dried her hair at medium speed and medium heat. “If you use too high of heat, it can make the hair feel a little too silky and too slippery, and it takes away from me being able to mold it. It's harder to work with,” she explains.
  3. Once her hair was 90% dry, Calhoun used a round brush to create a lift at the root and let that set in a pin curl for about 15 minutes. Then she took it down, brushed it out, and applied a very little amount of OLAPLEX Nº.7 Bonding Oil so the ends looked nice and healthy. “The Bonding Oil is great for adding a little touch of shine at the ends. It gives a perfect sheen that’s not heavy,” she says,
  4. Next, Calhoun used a half-inch curling iron and curled small sections throughout while changing directions to make sure the style looked as natural as possible. “By changing directions and curling one way and the next section a different way, nothing looks too uniform,” she says.
  5. Finally, Calhoun used Olaplex 4D Clean Volume Dry Shampoo to fluff it out, pulling the strands apart and breaking them up to look even more natural. “By taking some of that uniformity away, it makes it look a little lived-in and softer,” she says.
