Helen Oppenheim has been an iconic member of the salon industry since the 1960's. Not only did she serve as Vidal Sassoon's publicist, but she's work with and photographed the silhouettes of John Sahag, Charles Booth, Peter Gray, Kim Lepine and so many more. There are more than 2000 photographs in the archive and Oppenheim is making these available in her site that goes live TODAY! MODERN SALON offered a preview of the site on pages 56 and 57 of our October issue.
"Each photo is special," Oppenheim told me during an interview at the Badgley Mischka show during the most recent Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in NYC. "Each has text including credits and quotes from the interviews I conducted at the time I took the photograph." She points out that the photos are not just inspirational for hair dressers, but for make up artists, fashion designers, photographers and anyone interested in beauty and fashion.
While many of these photos have been published before, most have not been seen for years or in some cases decades. "It will take a week to go through this site," says Oppenheim. And from what we've seen...worth every second.
