Tia Lambourn, a freelance artist working out of Derby and Nottingham, United Kingdom, needed almost five hours to make her client’s dream come true. Although she does not have a before shot, we found this processing shot quite compelling – and a little scary! Lambourn loves to show this shot to “inform clients on the importance of toners.”

Here she shares the details for this lovely transformation:

STEP 1: Begin with the “Platinum Card” technique on the band along the new growth (she waited four months for a touch up) “She doesn’t like bleach on her scalp so I painted about half an inch away from her scalp.” Lightener used: Schwarzkopf BlondMe, starting with 2% slowly working up to 6%.  “I love BlondMe for how high of a lift you get but I’m always super careful never to overlap as it does swell more than most lighteners because it has built in bond builders I can do so much work and the hair still feel amazing!” Lambourn says.

STEP 2: Lift to a level nine and then shampoo.

STEP 3: At the shampoo bowl apply step 2 Schwarzkopf BlondMe Keratin Treatment and Mask.

STEP 4: Root shadow with 6/0 + 5/97 +7/97 in Wella Color Touch, (equal parts). Process for 10 minutes, then take a Tangle Teezer brush to help stretch her roots down. Process an additional five minutes.

STEP 5: Rinse and apply a second toner of Wella Illumina 10/69 (15g) + 8/69 (15g) + 6/16 (3g) mixed with Pastel Developer. Process for 15 minutes. “I do my roots shadows first then tone after. It’s  just what I’ve found works best for me on getting the blend perfect!”

STEP 6: Blow dry using an Ibiza B7 brush and Cloud 9’s Magic Quick Dry Spray and Wella Oil. Finish with the GHD Soft Curl tong for a beachy effortless wave.
