Woven & Spun Collection by Ruth Roche

“The idea was to stitch hair through hair rather than using a ribbon/cord,” Roche says. “Contrasting colors give the image strength, and using smaller pieces stitched close together is both intricate and simple.”

“In this image the model had medium-length hair, and I wanted it to resemble a side-swept fringe in the front,” Roche says. “I used both warm and cool blonde tones in the hair that was woven through her own hair.”

A contrast of color was usedto create more interest in the hair. The model’s natural hair was left down and a wig wrap was used to create a hair headband. “The pieces stitched across the head that drop in the front are wefts stitched into the model’s natural hair,” Roche says.

Ruth Roche, global artistic ambassador for Pureology Serious Colour Care, likes edgy yet classic when styling avant garde hair. So when she started to develop her Beautiful Strange collection, she skewed toward simple and clean; unusual, without going over the top.
