Sleek and Sophisticated Straight Texture

For his NEW Fall/Winter 2016 Texture Concept Collection, Donald Scott approaches texture in three different ways for three entirely different looks. Whether your clients are looking for a new look for the holiday season or a trend-forward update to wear year round, these looks are sure to turn heads.

Here, Scott shares his insider tips, techniques and tools used to achieve each style featured in this exclusive collection.

The Look: High Volume Curly Texture
The Tools Used: DSNYC Prepare Liquid Tool Glide, DSNYC Chop Stick Pro Razor, Scissors

Step 1: Wet hair and spray 10 mists of the DSNYC Prepare Liquid Tool Glide.

Step 2: Establish length and cut with scissors.

Step 3: Starting at the occipital bone, take diagonal sections directing the hair out from the head at 90 degree angle and carve with the DSNYC Chopstick Pro Razor while continuing to pivot from the occipital bone until your hands are horizontal. Elevate the hair with each section.

Step 4: Continue taking sections while combing each section down to the occipital bone and building until you reach the crown.

Step 5: On the sides, take a horizontal section and hold at a very high elevation to avoid a clumpy bottom. Continue to take sections until you reach the part.

Step 6: Repeat on the opposite back and side.

Step 7: Continue misting to create curly texture with DSNYC Prepare Liquid Tool Glide while adding shine and glide.

Step 8: Use the penciling technique with the DSNYC Chop Stick Pro Razor to soften and any excess bulk.

The Look: Edgy Shag with Textured Long Layers
The Tools: DSNYC Prepare Liquid Tool Glide and DSNYC Swivel Twist Razor

Step 1: Leave hair dry and spray with DSNYC Prepare Liquid Tool Glide to help glide the razor.

Step 2: Take a vertical section center back from the crown and establish the shortest layer, just below the occipital bone and save for last.

Step 3: Mist each section with prepare, carve down the shaft in one smooth motion to the end and pivot sections from the crown following your guide line to just behind the ear by holding the DSNYC Swivel Twist Razor at a 45 degree angle.

Step 4: Follow the same sections on the opposite side back, continue misting with DSNYC Prepare Liquid Tool Glide as you continue to carve out your shape.

Step 5: Establish the length of the bangs and cut them with the 100% carve side of the DSNYC Swivel Twist Razor – Donald recommends long bangs for extra drama.

Step 6: Starting from the front, take vertical sections and use the chin as a guide for the length in the front and carve down the strands to the longest length.

Step 7: Continue each section until you reach the last section from the back and repeat the same technique on the opposite side.

Step 8: For added texture and volume in the interior, use the teazy carve and some surface channeling and start halfway down the shaft of the hair.
