Where better to play dress up than in beautiful France? Hollywood’s A-listers hopped the pond in the past week to attend various premieres and events as part of the Cannes Film Festival in Cannes, France, and the theme was definitely of the glitz and glamour variety. As more of your clients begin to finalize their idea and inspiration boards for bridal, bridesmaid and special occasion styles for the impending wedding season, these soft and romantic styles may be perfect to help steer your clients in the direction they’re looking for.

Diane Kruger

The contrast of Diane’s controlled, tightly pulled back chignon and her flowing sea foam green gown keep the eyes guessing at where to look first. In the back, a 1-inch piece of hair is wrapped underneath the chignon to hide any pins or bands. Also, do you see any flyaways? We certainly don’t.

Salon Tip:
Want to up the romantic factor a little more? Pull out a few selected pieces with the end of a rattail comb. Brazilian Heat After Dark Educator Mario McDowell demos his spring chignon here: "It's all about making it a bit imperfect," he says.

Jessica Chastain

Wearing a deep side part, Jessica swept her fiery but retro curls to the side and paired with a bold red lip and eye-popping, heavy black mascara. The sideswept style works as a nice compromise when your client is apprehensive about wearing her hair down with heavy earrings, as to not let either overwhelm the other.

Marion Cotillard

Volume, much? In this hopelessly vintage updo, Marion went with an oversized, voluminous bun, accessorized with a string of jeweled flowers and light but flushed cheeks and lip gloss. Though the top is neatly polished with zero flyaways, her crown also has a subtle hint of volume and that makes her look more romantic than sleek.

Salon Tip:
If your client is considering including a headband or jeweled headpiece into her look instead of a string of jewels like Marion's, check out how ladies on the Golden Globes red carpet paired their headbands with head-turning buns and updos.

Naomi Watts

Another example of accessories done well, Naomi’s style with two smaller, intricate buns placed low on the back of the head are complemented well with feathered flower pieces pinned just behind the ears. A slight finger wave in the front keeps the look sweet and a bit surprising from any angle.

Salon Tip:
Try creating a finger wave with a Marcel iron, as Sam Villa, founding partner of the Sam Villa brand and education artistic director for Redken 5th Avenue, explains in this how-to.
