Hairdreams hair extensions recently held an intense two-day class on Editorial Fashion and Styling at Smashbox Studios in Culver City, CA.  Participants learned from industry names Sonya and Christopher Dove how to plan, prep and participate in a photo shoot from concept to creation.  The finished version of The Dove’s vision will be in the pages of November Modern Salon.  Behind-the-scenes at the photo shoot, energy and interest were high.  An intimate group of stylists who currently use Hairdreams traveled from all over the country to study with The Doves and their team which included Parisian-born photographer Nicolas Troncin.

Behind-the-Scenes with Hairdreams: Editorial Styling ClassTopics discussed and demonstrated during the two days included:

-- Coloring for the Camera. Learn what colors and contrasts create the best image.  With Sonya Dove
-- Cutting and Styling your concepts.  Cutting to create natural looks that fall into place and minimize Photoshop post production.  Make striking non-conventional looks.
-- Preparing your model.  Wardrobe or not to wardrobe, that is the question
-- Hair and makeup preparations for the camera
-- Lighting for your concept.  Keeping it Simple.

Attendees  Nancy Cartonio and Melissa Vigue from Bei Capelli in Scarborough, Maine share a similar rigorous work ethic and a desire to constantly improve what they are doing in their salon, including producing a photo shoot to showcase their work.

“We have these awesome ideas for photo shoots and it seems near impossible, but it’s priceless to see how they (The Doves) pull it all together.  It gives us a structure, a plan to work from,”says Cartonio.

“Watching it on this level and up close allows us to see it unfold and to hear how they come up with their ideas.  It’s so inspiring, “says Vigue.

Laura Symons from Salon 01 in Indianapolis, Indiana, said “This class has given me a really good foundation of where to start, of how to conceptualize a proper photos shoot.”

Michelle Nauert, Robert’s Salon and Day Spa in Indiana, Indianapolis has been using Hairdreams for six years.  “The most enjoyable moment for me is when you put extensions in and you watch someone--from a teenager to a seventy year old woman--feel pretty again.”
