Cutting fixed expenses is the fastest way to keep more on every dollar. At Paul Brown Salons and Spas (paulbrownhawaii.com) throughout Hawaii, Brown says the need for all-day air conditioning is equal to the need for heat during a Minneapolis January. To tackle energy bills, he dials down the AC at all locations two hours before closing and has seen a definite difference in the electricity bill.
Says Brown, “Sometimes, little things make a difference. You can at least dial-down near the end of the day. Also, check your water-heater thermostat; the temperature should be determined by the traffic. On Mondays, or days that you aren’t open, turn it way down; the water heater is the single biggest energy drain in your salon on those days.”
