When CND created its trend report for the summer, some of the hottest looks were a walk on the wild side. Jungle reds and textured layers of safari-inspired shades give fingers and toes a hint of foreign intrigue.

For summer, shake up your staid shelf of ballerina and cotton-candy pinks. Instead, stock up on tribal hues that reflect the vibrant colors found in the African wilderness. The pop of color at your nail stations will surely get clients’ attention, but be sure to also point out the polishes as the must-have shades of the season. Display them in an artfully designed basket (think: leopard or zebra-print lining) at the front desk and you can look forward to a stampede of impulse buys.

Here are some of CND’s other trend picks for spring and summer:

  • Outside the Lines: Crayola-esque graduated pinks, sky blue and sunny yellow.
  • Trance Mix: Candy colors done in a transparent finish; holographic, silvery shades with mirror-like surfaces.
  • Valley of the Dolls: Suggest some of these shades to blushing brides—coquettish pinks in powdery tints, slightly “dirty” off-white and dove gray.
  • Prints Charming: Explore graphic prints and patterns for clients’ nails. Summer is the perfect time to experiment with gingham checks and mod, colorblock designs.
