Shorter styles are popping up across the board for men and women, so being able to create a part that is versatile is a handy skill.
David Boyd of the Sam Villa ArTeam uses a Sam Villa Signature Series Razor with 9-Gap Texturizing Blade and Sam villa Signature Series Long Cutting Comb to create this style. It's important to use a contrasting-colored comb when cutting short hair for max precision.
"When deciding where to upt a part, keep in mind that a part that follows the natural growth pattern is going to have a lot more control and will be easier for your guest to style at home, whereas a part that goes against the grain will have more texture and movement," Boyd says. TIPS FOR CREATING A VERSATILE PART
- Spray hair with water so razor moves down the hair strand more easily.
- Use a 9-gap razor for blending and creating an eye-catching finish. This razor creates shapes without cutting too much hair or risking changing the density of the foundation of hair.
- Start about 1/2-inch down the hair strand with the razor to promote an element of movement without creating "sprouts."
- Leave a longer section of hair out in the front as a veil to be swept back into the shape and conceal the previously cut sections.
