It’s the most hectic month of the year. All of your clients want their color refreshed and their nails done and an updo for a holiday party … the list is endless! But here are a few reasons to get excited about being a hairdresser this month!

10. Mrs. Smith’s fruitcake. She brings it in every year as a special holiday gift to you. OK, that might not be the highlight of your holiday season, but many clients do tip more generously this time of year as a special thank-you for making them beautiful all year long. That’s something to get excited about!

9. The dreaded holiday updo.
You’re probably already getting tired of your client wanting the same old chignon for her husband’s holiday party. Take action! This year, find some styles that are trendy and current to present to clients who usually do the same old thing. They’ll appreciate your creativity and you’ll get to flex those creative muscles!

8. Untangling the lights. Decorating the salon was more pain than pleasure, but now is the time to enjoy the festive atmosphere while it lasts.

7. The ding of the cash register bell. That’s right, this is the month you’ll see your retail profits go through the roof. Suggest stocking stuffers, teacher gifts, shaving goodies for him, etc. You have a captive audience—make the most of it!

6. Secret Santa. Whether it’s a Secret Santa or some other holiday game or party, get into it this year. Instead of getting your co-worker a gift certificate to Target, buy a tube of Chanel lipstick in a shade of red. It’s a luxury item that’s not over-the-top expensive.

5. Cookies. It’s the only time of year platters of cookies, tins of fudge and buckets of popcorn will abound in the workplace. Plan to take power walks on your breaks so you can enjoy all the holiday treats without the guilt!

4. Fingers and toes on display.
For most of the winter months, clients skip their regular pedicures and slow down the manicures. But in December, family gatherings and holiday parties prompt clients to get into the salon. And remember, nail polish makes the perfect stocking stuffer!

3. Red and green hair. Well, maybe not. But holiday gatherings are festive affairs and clients often want to do something special with their look. Try extensions or retailing a sparkling body spray.

2. Peace on Earth. Or at least in the salon. Now’s the time of year to make amends with a co-worker or send a postcard to a new client to entice her back into your chair.

1. Warm Fuzzies. Get co-workers together and choose an organization to donate to this season. Let clients in on your plans so they can contribute as well. After all, it’s the season of giving!
