Where Are Salon Suites Headed Next?
Whether a beauty professional chooses a commission salon, booth rental, salon suite or salon ownership, the common thread is having more choices than ever before.
Salon owner Anthony Morrison (winner of Shear Genius) talks about the show and what's next

Joico Artistic Team Member Anthony Morrison snipped, clipped, styled and tinted his way to first place as the winner of Shear Genius on Bravo TV. Pitted against 11 other hair pros, including his colleague and best friend, Joico Artistic Team Member Tabatha Coffey, Morrison competed in a series of challenges, and was voted to the top spot by the show's judges in the finale, which aired at the end of May.
Since taking the Shear Genius title, Morrison has appeared on "The Today Show" on NBC, and as part of the grand prize, will be featured in an upcoming issue of Allure magazine. "The phone has not stopped ringing," says the soft-spoken stylist, who owns the Londoner Salon in Manhattan Beach, CA. "A lot of offers are coming in from all directions."
The British-born Morrison has more than 16 years of experience in the beauty industry, and has held positions in prestigious salons in the U.S. and abroad. He is one of Joico's most popular artists because he offers a unique combination of creativity and technical expertise plus a commanding personal presence in all of his classes and platform presentations.
The Shear Genius series judges included renowned stylist Sally Hershberger, Allure magazine Creative Director Michael Carl and series host, actress Jaclyn Smith. The special guest judge for the finale was industry icon Vidal Sassoon. "This has really impacted my career," enthuses Morrison. "Vidal Sassoon said my work was amazing! But best of all is having the opportunity to show the world what a wonderful profession this can be. When I moved over here from England I had nothing, but with hard work and focus and a desire to be the best, nothing is impossible. My message to stylists is simple. Reach for the stars. If you don't, you're really just cheating yourself!"
Having "made the cut" throughout the series, Morrison remained among the three finalists for the last challenge. At that point, each stylist had to re-create one of Sassoon's signature bobs, execute a second cut and color as well as a third haircut, and present a complete collection to the judges, all in just four hours. According to Morrison, by this point, he was well aware of the preferences of each judge and was able to speak to those preferences for shine, geometry and commercial style with his three models. Summing it all up, Morrison says that Shear Genius was a once in a lifetime experience. "It was a lot of fun," he notes. "I met a lot of very interesting people. Some, I would like to stay in contact with after the show," he laughs, "And some, probably not!"
