Isn't balayage the same as hair painting?
"No," says Eva Scrivo, balayage expert, salon owner and founder of the Eva Scrivo Academy (NYC). "There is a lot of misinformation out there. They are different, and the more you learn about this craft, the better you will be!"
In a nutshell, hair painting is when you paint both the top and bottom of the strand, recreating the look of a soft foil. Balayage is painting the surface of the strand, creating a built-in lowlight.
In this video, Scrivo breaks down the differences, chats about clay-based lighteners, the differences of white and blue bleaches, what to do with very dark, coarse hair and more.
