The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show showcased natural texture on the runway—a first for the show.

Three years after Karlie Kloss chopped her locks the day before walking the show, Maria Borges ditched her extensions and wore her natural TWA (teeny-weeny Afro)—the first to wear the style on the Victoria’s Secret runway in the show’s 20-year history.

“It was very important for me to walk the show wearing my TWA,” Borges said in an interview with Elle magazine. “We each have a different definition for beauty, but being yourself is the most important. Beauty type or hair styles constantly evolve. A woman shouldn’t be reduced to the current trends.”

This year, Beachwaver was the official hair sponsor of the show. Sarah Potempa, celebrity hairstylist and inventor of the Beachwaver, expressed her enthusiasm for embracing varied definitions of bombshell hair.

“Hair at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show this year was all about keeping it natural and sexy; we wanted to enhance the different hair types and lengths of all the Angels,” she said. “The models have been known for rocking long hair on the runway, but this year, we want to show that it’s all about enhancing what you already have. The response to Maria Borges’ hair has been great, so I’m hoping to see more natural hair in the future!”
