Color Conversion: The Rock Star Tweak

2 min to read

"Joy is the quintessential rock star," says Eva Scrivo of her singer, songwriter and voice coach client. "She has been making music for almost all of her life. At 57, she rides her bicycle all over Manhattan and Brooklyn, is active and energetic, and is clearly not defined by her age. I wanted to give her a look that embodied that youthful feel."

Scrivo, known as the "Princess of Balayage,"  knew some well placed highlights (to brighten the look) and lowlights (for dimension), along with a slight color conversion through a neutral toning, would bring out the best in her rocker client.

Here she shares the how-to:

Step 1: Place a combination of deep V balayage highlights and babylights using Silklift by Goldwell and 20 volume. Some additional pieces were added around the hairline for brightness.

Step 2: A few lowlights were added using 7-8 Warm Colorance by Goldwell.

Step 3: Process for 35 minutes, then rinse.

Step 4: Tone with a neutral glaze: 10N Colorance by Goldwell.

Step 5: Process for 10 minutes, then rinse.

"For the haircut, I chose one of our signature layering patterns, combining a straight blade with scissors. I then finished with a soft makeup application using the lightest bronzer with a taupe eye shadow and a pinky-beige lipstick, to pull the look together for a complete transformation."

Scrivo shares her signature balayage style, placement and formulations at her own academy in NYC held in her Fifth Avenue salon. We've just learned she opened up a few spots at her next workshop on Monday, Sept. 12. For more information go to Eva Scrivo Advanced Academy
